After more than 40 years in mortgage lending, I was ready to retire—and I did.
No more rate sheets, underwriters, or compliance updates. And honestly, I didn’t miss most of it.
But what I did miss? The conversations. Especially with people who didn’t think they could ever buy a home.
I’ve always had a soft spot for the folks who had no idea where to start—maybe their credit wasn’t perfect, maybe they didn’t have much saved. They just needed someone to walk them through the process and show them a path forward.
One story I’ll never forget:
A young man came to me years ago, desperate to buy a home. His credit was in rough shape and he had very little saved—but he was determined. I gave him a plan and, honestly, assumed I might never hear from him again.
Nearly two years later, he showed up at my office. He’d followed every step. He got a better job, saved consistently, cleaned up his credit—and somewhere along the way, even got married (a little extra motivation, perhaps?).
He got his home.
And the truth is, he gave me something too. The feeling of helping someone completely transform their financial path—that's the feeling I’ve never forgotten. That’s what’s propelling me now.
So I came back. Not as a lender, but as a guide. A teacher.
Today, I help people figure out whether homebuying is the right move for them—and how to get ready for it if it is. No sales pitch. No pressure. Just real-world knowledge from someone who spent decades on the inside.
At first, I thought I’d offer online courses—but only about 5–15% of people actually finish them. I can confirm that, because I'm one of those people! I wanted something more accessible and engaging for both me and the people I want to help.
Then I discovered AI.
And suddenly, it all clicked.
I could create interactive tools—custom chats—that walk users through questions and decisions, just like I would if we were sitting at a kitchen table.
My goal hasn’t changed: to make the mortgage process less confusing and more empowering.
Not everyone should buy a home—but everyone should understand why it is or isn’t the right move for them.
That’s why I built Home Loan Teacher.
And that’s why I’m excited about this next chapter—not as a lender, but as an educator.
I’ve created a free, interactive chat designed for people who are thinking about homeownership—but aren’t sure if they’re ready, or even want to be. It’s pressure-free, private, and a great place to start.
